When you envision the perfect optometry practice, what do you see? Take a look at Moses Eyecare Centers, and you’ll find board-certified professionals that provide quality eye care to tens of thousands of patients in Northwest Indiana.
Founded in 1975 by Dr. Robert W. Moses, an optometrist fondly referred to as “Doc Dad,” the optometric practice has grown to 11 centers throughout the Region, after recently opening a new office in downtown Valparaiso.
Dr. Moses is an award-winning optometrist, whose accolades include 1998 President of the Indiana Optometric Association. In 1999, he received the association’s “Distinguished Service to Optometry” award. In 2002, his peers named him “Optometrist of the Year.” As chairman of the Third Party Care Committee, Dr. Moses oversees optometric participation of federal, state and commercial health plans. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a member of the Indiana and American Optometric Associations and he has published articles on health care reform and medical ethics.
In addition to Dr. Robert W. Moses, the family-owned business includes Dr. Robert J. Moses and his sister, Dr. Jennifer Kohn, who practice alongside their father. “Dr. Jen” was not only named the Young Optometrist of the Year in Indiana in 2018 but also was the National Young Optometrist in 2019. She remains active at the state and national levels. Another son, David, and his wife, Laura, serve as practice administrators on the business side.
“We’re not only a family-owned business, but all of our optometrists were born and raised in the Region,” says Dr. Kohn. “They work and live in the communities where their patients work and live.” Dr. Virginia Bonilla, for example, is extremely active in community outreach projects for children in East Chicago and Hammond while focusing on treatment of dry eye disease in the clinic.
